James Cameron to be Honored with Scripps Nierenberg Prize

Ocean frontier explorer and world-renowned filmmaker James Cameron has been named by Scripps Institution of Oceanography as the recipient of the 2013 Nierenberg Prize for Science in the Public Interest. Cameron will deliver a presentation on his record-setting DEEPSEA CHALLENGE expedition and exploration of the frontiers of the deep sea on May 31 on campus.

DARPA Awards $6 Million to Develop Nanotech Therapies for Traumatic Brain Injuries

DARPA, the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, has awarded $6 million to a team of researchers to develop nanotechnology therapies for the treatment of traumatic brain injury and associated infections. Led by UC San Diego's Michael J. Sailor, the award brings together a multi-disciplinary team of renowned experts in laboratory research, translational investigation and clinical medicine, including Dr. Erkki Ruoslahti of the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute, Dr. Sangeeta N. Bhatia of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Dr. Clark C. Chen of the UC San Diego School of Medicine.
