An impacted major is one that is limiting enrollment.
On your application, if you choose an impacted major, you must also select an alternate major that is not impacted. These choices will not affect your overall admission to UC San Diego, and if admitted to the university, you could be admitted into either major.
Impacted majors for freshmen:
- Division of Biological Sciences
- School of Engineering
- Aerospace Engineering
- Bioengineering
- Bioengineering: Biotechnology
- Mechanical Engineering
Impacted majors for transfer students:
- Bioengineering
- Bioengineering: Biotechnology
Note that a major requiring pre-major status is not the same as an impacted major.
