At UC San Diego, art, science and technology collide. Our stages, studios and galleries are experimental laboratories where artists tap into their unique visions and push the boundaries of their mediums.

And it’s unlike anything you’ve seen or heard before — from video installations directed by artificial intelligence to three-dimensional sound holograms that immerse theatre audiences and speculative fiction that bring to life the “what-ifs” of our future.

Students, staff, faculty, community members and visitors who’d like to study, create or experience the arts at UC San Diego are invited to explore the university’s vibrant arts ecosystem.

Research

Creativity is defined as the ability to transcend traditional ideas by imaginatively seeking new interpretations. At UC San Diego, our arts faculty and students are constantly asking “what if” to sculpt more equitable and ethical futures. They are transforming important issues impacting humankind into moving stories that spark social change. And they are redefining what is possible by partnering with technologists, engineers and scientists.

School of Arts and Humanities

Research interests are multidimensional at the School of Arts and Humanities. For instance, choreographers are exploring systems of oppression, using dance as a mechanism for social change; music scholars are studying how ideas of gender get attached to different types of sound; and visual artists are testing the possibilities of creativity using artificial intelligence.
